How to remove fur from velvet pillows?

I bought nice velvet throw pillows but my cat claims them as his own. Now they’re covered in short gray hairs that won’t come off with a vacuum or brush. Anyone know a safe method for velvet that won’t flatten the pile or leave marks?

Velvet is beautiful but a magnet for pet hair. Avoid anything too abrasive. I start by lightly brushing against the pile direction with a soft rubber brush, then go in with something adhesive. Keeping 1 lint roller nearby has been a game changer—gentle enough not to crush the texture and picks up almost everything in one or two passes. Just don’t press too hard. Works on other plush fabrics too.
